What if your date turns out nothing like you had seen of him/her in pictures when you meet? Would you be disappointed about the lie? Or stick around? Well, a recent social experiment done by the online dating site Simple Pickup that helps men pick up their preferred women, found out what men and women fear from online dating.
In this social experiment, the team from Simple Pickup wanted to prove the survey results done by an HBO Documentary in 2011, which states that women are fearful of meeting a serial killer, while men have their concerns over meeting fat women.
To begin with, a profile of a pretty, desirable looking girl was made on Tinder, a dating app. Sarah was then dressed up and made to look like a fat, rather obese woman with layered clothing and make-up. She then set out for her dates as planned on the chat system through Tinder. The video shows how different men seem to have the same reaction on meeting their date who turns out to be unlike what they thought or expected. Most of them walk off, except for one.
This social experiment reveals how men want their dates and women to look. A real image, doesn’t seem to go down too well with them. This also lays emphasis on the kind of expectations online dating has set.
The same experiment was done on women as well. The reactions of these women were interesting to watch. Most conveyed that they could not recognise who they’ve ended up meeting as compared to the pictures they saw on Tinder. However, the women came across as more tolerant to someone who may not be as physically appealing as they’d expect.
