Government making efforts to establish AIIMS-like institute in South India, says Harsh Vardhan

Dr harsh-vardhanThe Central government is making efforts to finalise a place for setting up an institution similar to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), confirmed Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan.


During a video-conferencing on Monday, the minister mentioned that the institution will be set up in a place that would be easily accessible to those in South India. ‘It would be established at a location accessible to people from TN, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana,’ the union minister said.



Earlier the ministry had announced its efforts to establish AIIMS-like institution in 12 state including Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Raipur and Patna. These institutions will be set up by this year end and each one of them will be having an institute of public health, an Ayush department and a department of environmental and occupational health. The ministry has directed chief Ministers of 12 states to identify 200 acres of land for it.
