Gujarati film ‘The Good Road’ is India’s official entry to Oscars this year.
The film has been made by debut feature filmmaker Gyan Correa.
There were 22 entries from different parts of India for consideration this year.
National award-winning 'The Good Road' saw off strong competition from films like 'The Lunchbox', 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag', 'English Vinglish', Kamal Haasan's 'Vishwaroopam'.
‘The Good Road’ is a Gujarati film with English subtitles.
The film won a National Award this year as Best Feature Film (Gujarati). The last Gujarati film to receive a national award was Upendra Patel's Manvi Ni Bhavai in 1994.
The Good Road' is financed and supported by the National Film Development Corp, NFDC.
The film is adult film – perhaps the first Gujarati adult film. However there’s nothing sexy about it. The film is adult because of dirty language used by various characters. Interestingly the main character of this adult film is 7-8 years old child. Also there are more than dozen teen age girls playing roles of prostitutes in this film. Majority of these under-aged characters speak dirty language throughout the film.
The cast Shamji Dhana Kerasia is orignal trunk driver in his life.
The news, however, has not gone down well with 'The Lunchbox' co-producer Anurag Kashyap and presenter Karan Johar, who took to Twitter to express their anger.
