Nothing but an E-XC with street-friendly equipment.
The KTM Freeride E-SM supermoto electric dirt bike made its global premiere at the INTERMOT 2014 in Cologne, Germany.
The E-SM is the latest member of KTM’s Freeride E series which includes a track only E-SX and a road legal E-XC. Catering to the supermoto segment, the E-SM comes fitted with street-specific suspension, wheels and tyres, in addition to bigger discs with upgraded calipers.
The electric powertrain is borrowed from the E-XC. The liquid-cooled permanent magnet AC electric motor generates 22 PS and 42 Nm of torque right from the word GO!. The source of electricity is a swappable 2.6 KWh li-ion battery which charges fully in 80 minutes and up to 80% in 50 minutes.
The single gear (clutchless operation) has a taller ratio compared to the E-XC. At 110 kg, the electric supermoto promises a sprightly performance. The ECU is programed to make the instant torque delivery manageable.
In terms of styling, the three Freeride E bikes can only be differentiated from each other by the model stickers and tyres.
