BookMyShow posts Rs 4.03 Cr loss in FY14; Revenue up 59.3% YoY

Bigtree Entertainment which operates the movie and event ticketing website BookMyShow, has reported revenues of Rs 84.02 crore for the year ended March 31, 2014 (FY14), up 59.3% from Rs 52.76 crore revenues in the previous year.

The company however posted a loss of Rs 4.03 crore for the year, as compared to a profit of Rs 3.23 crore in FY13 and a profit of Rs 1.45 crore in FY12.

Tickets Sold: Network18 mentions that BookMyShow has sold an average of more than 3 million tickets every month in FY14, registering a 67% growth over FY13. More than 40% of the company’s sales now comes from their mobile offerings.

While the company hasn’t provided any split between its movie ticketing and non-movie ticketing business, BookMyShow CEO Ashish Hemarajani had earlier told Medianama that non-movie ticketing contributes to about 40%-45% of BookMyShow’s revenues. In terms of transactions, it’s however still skewed towards movie ticketing with non-movie ticketing accounting for about 20% of the company’s total transactions.

In terms of user metrics, BookMyShow claims to have seven million registered users as of March 31, 2014 and registered an average of 33 million visits per month.

Network18 Stake: Network18 held 39.75% stake in Bigtree Entertainment as of March 31, 2014, however it’s worth noting that Bigtree Entertainment had raised Rs 150 crore from SAIF Partners and existing investors Accel Partners and Network18 in June this year. Network18 had mentioned that this investment values BookMyShow at more than Rs 1,000 crore.

The company had then stated plans of using this investment to expand to smaller cities outside Tier I cities, strengthen its infrastructure and improve its mobile offerings.

International event ticketing: In May this year, BookMyShow also partnered with the Geneva-based online ticket marketplace Viagogo to offer tickets for International live events, via a new International section.

This section offered tickets for events like Amsterdam Music Festival and music concert tickets for International artists like Demi Lovato, Mariah Carey and The Rolling Stones among others. It also offered tickets for sporting events like WTA Finals, Manchester United, Chelsea FC, and Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix among others. More on that here.
