iKeywi-ThumbApple’s decision to allow developers to make third-party keyboards and sell them through the App Store for iOS 8 users took many by surprise because after so many years of iOS, the general public had generally accepted that Apple didn’t want to give third parties access to everything its users typed.

Now there are a lot of third party keyboards available for your Apple device if it’s running on iOS 8. Some of them, such as SwiftKey, are great. Some others are just plain bad. But a familiar third-party keyboard is also available for iOS 8, named iKeywi.

Those of you who are familiar with some of the top jailbreak tweaks available for iOS 7 will have heard of iKeyWi. The keyboard serves one main function – it adds an extra fifth row of keys to the iOS 8. While it doesn’t sound that important, you’d be surprised what you can do with an extra row on your device.

Other features include buttons for moving the cursor and keys that show the letter case being used among other things, but it’s that extra row of keys that will no doubt get the most attention.

Once you’ve installed iKeywi, you’ll need to navigate to “Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> Keyboards -> Add New Keyboard” and enable the iKeywi keyboard.

The app costs only $0.99, and for it’s excellent features, I think you won’t mind spending a buck for this keyboard as long as you don’t mind the request for “Full Access” to your device. Oh, and iKeywi supports the iPad too.

Let us know in the comments below how you customized the keyboard on your iOS 8 device.
