Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has appointed former Google executive Jai Mani as its lead product manager in India. He’ll be based in Bangalore. Interestingly, Xiaomi’s VP of International operations Hugo Barra is also an ex-Google employee.
According to Barra’s Facebook post announcing the appointment, Mani has already started work and has already co-hosted a Mi Fan meet-up in Bangalore with Mi India assistant product operations manager Rohit Ghalsasi.
Mani had shared the stage with Barra at Google I/O 2013 conference, helping him with demos. Mani worked as Google Play Strategy and Analytics associate for over 2 years, before quitting in November last year. But he had been a part of Google since November 2009. His LinkedIn profile says that after leaving Google he had co-founded a startup, though no further details have been mentioned.
Xiaomi’s Bangalore office works on MiUI and customizing it for India. It seems Mani will be heading this team.
Earlier this year, Jabong.com co-founder Manu Kumar Jain had been appointed Xiaomi’s head of India operations.
