If you have always been cursing yourself because of your short height, stop now! You could look as stylish and appealing without your height coming in the way. Dressing up is fun especially when you can turn your problem areas or trick your height away with your dressing sense. Here are some tips that can give an illusion of height to your frame.

Tuck it in

You should be particular about how you wear your tops as the proportion of your clothes from top to bottom can either leave you looking taller or way shorter than you actually are. If you are short and curvy, it’s best to tuck in your shirt as pulling out your top or those which reach your hip may look longer on you. A simple way to get this right is by ensuring that when you tuck in your shirt, your zipper shouldn’t be covered.

Get the right sleeve

If you have a petite frame, then stay away from wearing loose, full-sleeved shirts. Roll up your sleeves till your arms. Avoid wearing mega, bat sleeves or cuff sleeves as this would unnecessarily highlight your arms and make them look bulky. Stick to wearing regular sleeves for casual wear.

High-waist bottoms

The concept of wearing high-waist bottoms for skirts, pants or shorts basically aims at making your legs look longer. It’s also a fashionable and crisp way to style your attire. Also, as for the length of your jeans or trousers, keep away from shorter lengths or ones above ankle length. Instead, wear pants that bunch up at the bottom. If your thighs are your problem areas, then know to hide them with clothes here.

Long dresses and maxis

When it comes to dresses, you can experiment with longer lengths. A full-length outfit helps you look slimmer and makes your figure appear proportionate. You could wear straight-fit maxi gowns and dresses instead of opting for anything A-line. However you could try an asymmetrical trail dress with heels for an evening out. Jacket it

Layering your clothing helps divert attention not only from your heavy areas but also gives an illusion about your height. Wear a jacket according to the occasion and weather. Be cautious that you don’t select a loose and ill-fitted one as this can make you look broader.

Right belt

To define your body’s proportion, the belt is a saviour. Choose thin and slick belts over big, broad ones. The big buckled belts may not suit your body frame. A good belt would just complement your waistline in a high-waist skirt, shorts or dresses and dresses in longer lengths.

Darker hues

Darker colours help give a streamlined appearance. If you prefer to, you could stick to an all dark colour palette in your attire as this would project a longer silhouette of yourself. You could experiment with other dark shades apart from sticking to black, like maroon, dark brown, navy blue, emerald or dark green, or even a shade of teal.

Fine footwear

You shouldn’t miss out on your footwear as a fine pair of shoes can complete your look just right. Heels are a good option. You could choose the height of the heels and the style as per your comfort level. You could go for platform heels, wedges or the classic pencil heel. If you like wearing cuffed jeans (folded at the bottom) or shorts, then wear ankle-strap sandals. This helps proportion your legs well and does not make your calves look bigger.
